Standing in a luxury hotel foyer today, waiting to go into a web analytics seminar, I had the great pleasure of standing beside two gentlemen who were comparing their companies. “So are you a midsteam or an upsteam company then?” asked one them. “Well of course, we are an upstream agency” responded the second gentleman “all the best companies are nowadays”.
Well i’ve been to a lot of web seminars in the last 12 years and it never ceases to amaze me how many new phrases are ‘coined’, or established terms abused during these events. I am familiar with ’streams’ to describe elements of the business process. However, a midstream or downstream agency? Those descriptors are new to me.
Maybe i’ve been hanging around in the wrong circles with the wrong vocabulary. I should get some new friends…or at least invest in a new dictionary.
