Getty scoops ‘Scoopt’ Citizen Photojournalism Photo Site

It was reported about a month ago by CNET News.com that Getty had acquired Scoopt, a user generated news-centric photolicensing service. This was around the same time that Getty’s purchase of Jupiter Media fell through. What’s interesting about this acquisition is that a corporate giant such as Getty seriously believes that user generated citizen photojournalism could become a respectible source of revenue - even within their scale of business operation. Of course Reuters Pictures have been using this method of content acquisition for many years. However, unlike Reuters photographers, the photographers of Scoopt only need a camera and a web camera to qualify.
