It’s coming up to my two month anniversary of using a Mac for web development for the first time (i’ve been using Windows based PC’s for the last 12 years). At first the move was easy. I switched the MacBook on, and it worked. I downloaded new software and it worked. However, after getting my head round the various ‘macisms’, shortcuts and quirks, one thing that really annoys me is having to use the ‘Terminal’ application to tweak the operating system. I’ve spent the last half hour trying to work out why my new installation of CocoaMySql will not log into my MAMP version of MySQL. After hunting around, I’ve now found the solution, thanks to Stefan Fischerländer. Apparently it’s something to do with socks, sockets and sudo’s - something i really don’t care or want to learn. Thankfully, the fix was simple, but virtually impossible to guess or work out the solution for oneself. I don’t remember Windows XP Pro being this complicated. I thought using a Mac was supposed to be simple?
