QueensSpeech soft launches social publishing platform
Queens Speech just soft launched over at www.queensspeech.com after nearly two months of beta testing. This first version of the social publishing platform marks a strong departure from common usability techniques - an experiment to determine how far web design can evolve away from the norm. The interface is deliberately chaotic, the colours are bold and intense, and the navigation is a challenge. Why? I’ve become bored by traditional web design over the last 12 months, and it seems nearly every new ‘web 2.0′ product that launches, looks and behaves in the same monotonous way. Now i completely understand usability, accessibility and user familiarity concepts - i have been an accessibility evengelist for quite quite some time - and that’s why I wanted QueensSpeech to be bold, even abrasive if necessary. Why copy everyone else if you don’t have to?
The experiment may well be a disaster, but i’m willing to risk that in order to learn and discover something new. The design will have to evolve, it will have adapt to user behaviour, but at least it’s starting from a new baseline in design - somewhere exciting, somewhere fresh and perhaps this somewhere is somewhere i don’t even know…
