YouTube ‘should check copyright’

by Matthew Ogston on December 6, 2006

As reported by the BBC, The Japan Society for Rights of Authors, Composers and Publishers is recommending that all videos are checked before going live on to YouTube. Last month, at the request of the Japenese entertainment industry, Google removed 30,000 copyright infringing videos from YouTube. YouTube currently has licensing deals with CBS and three major recording companies: Warner Music, Universal Music Group and Sony BMG Music Entertainment. YouTube must grow up if the media industry is to take it seriously. However, they must remain immature they want to continue being the leading video sharing portal on the net.
